Everything you wanted to ask about Dext. Answered without the jargon.
Send Dext an invoice, receipt or bank statement and it reads the document for you — supplier, date, totals, tax and line items — turning it into structured data with over 99% accuracy. That data goes into the accounting software you already use, so nobody has to type it in. The AI is our own, trained on accounting documents rather than general text, and nothing is published without your review.
Dext accepts receipts, bills, invoices and other documents in the following file formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, HTML, PDF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, RTF. These must all be 6MB for images; 100MB for ZIP archives. For bank statements, Dext only accepts PDF and TIFF file formats.
You can add additional users onto your Dext account. Each user will have the ability to submit, view and edit paperwork with Dext, depending on what is permitted.
If you’ve forgotten your password, head over to the Dext web app to reset it. Click on ‘forgot password?’ and fill in the email address you normally use to log in to Dext. We'll email you a link where you can securely reset your own Dext Password.
Submit a support request from the support centre, the web app or the mobile app. Once it has been processed you will be in a live chat with someone from our support team — a real person, speaking your language rather than tech jargon.
Dext automatically converts any foreign currencies into your base currency using Fixer conversion rates for the day that the item is dated. Currency data delivered by Fixer is sourced from financial data providers and banks, including the European Central Bank.
Yes. Dext connects with 36+ accounting software platforms, including Xero, QuickBooks Online and Sage, as well as over 11,500 banks and the main ecommerce platforms. Whatever you and your accountant already use, Dext fits in around it. A few integrations are not available in every region — the full list is here.
However suits them. Give each person their own login and they can send documents in by mobile, email, WhatsApp or desktop, and the data is extracted automatically. Nobody has to save a receipt for a quiet afternoon that never comes.
To view client data, you need to create a Client Account. Log in to your Dext account and click on ‘My Clients’ under the manage section and click the green ‘+Add Client button’ at the top of the page. Fill in the form and a new client will be added to your Dashboard. Here, you can receive, review and manage the financial documentation for one of your clients' businesses. Note: this functionality is only available for Bookkeeper and Accountant Partner Accounts. Find out more about the different Dext products here.
All customer data is stored in the EU, encrypted at every stage, with access granted on a least-privilege basis. Dext is ISO/IEC 27001 certified and GDPR compliant, and you can check our security practices any time on the Trust Centre. We never sell your data or hand it to third parties.
No. Your existing login details still work and take you straight into Dext.
Your plan sets how many users you can add, and you can add or remove them yourself from Account Settings. Everyone gets their own login and the permissions you choose, so the people who spend can submit their own paperwork. The pricing page shows the user allowance on each plan.

The pricing page sets out what each one includes, and there is a free trial if you would rather try it on your own paperwork first than read about it.
Dext offers a number of different pricing options for accountants and bookkeepers, so you can choose one that suits your business best. Our three tiers – Streamline, Optimise and Enterprise – are built to support everyone from sole traders to major firms.
Connect Xero to Dext once — it takes seconds — and your invoices and receipts publish straight through as clean, coded data. No copying figures from one screen to another, and no second version of the numbers.
The same way. Connect your QuickBooks Online account once and Dext sends your financial data across, already extracted and categorised. There is a step-by-step guide here if you would like to follow along.
In the web app, open the Costs Workspace, go to Inbox and tick the items you want to include. Click Add to expense report in the toolbar, then Add. Your report appears under Expense Reports, ready to view, edit and publish. From there you can nominate who sees and approves employee expenses, and set reports to build themselves at regular intervals — so the report is waiting for you rather than the other way round.
Yes. Photograph the invoice and Dext takes it from there, reading the currency, total, tax amount, customer, invoice date and invoice number, then organising the data the way you work.
Yes. Bank statement data comes in through Match in the web app — open the Bank transactions tab and click Add bank data. Dext connects to over 11,500 banks and financial institutions, and every transaction is logged and stored securely alongside the document behind it.
Dext compares each new document with what you have sent before and assigns a category to match. With auto-categorisation on, it applies the treatment you gave similar items last time. Where a supplier rule is in place, Dext suggests the category and leaves the decision with you. The AI does the sorting. The call is still yours.
Yes. Export items and reports from your Dext inbox as CSV or PDF and work with them however you like. The data is yours, and it leaves as easily as it arrived.
Yes. Dext identifies the supplier on every document you send in and files it accordingly. Build and edit your own supplier lists from the Suppliers tab in the web app, and set a rule once to decide how that supplier's paperwork is handled from then on.
Employee expenses sit in their own reports under the Expense Reports tab, summarised and ready for sign-off, so people are paid back on time. Reports can be downloaded for approval, or approved inside Dext without downloading anything on Advanced Expense Reporting. Claim, approval and payment happen in one place, without leaving the platform.
Yes. Dext turns bank statements into structured data alongside your invoices and receipts, so the statement and the paperwork behind it agree before either reaches your accounting software. How much statement capacity you have depends on your plan — the pricing page has the current allowances.
Yes. You decide what each person can view, edit and export. Add and remove users from the Maintain Users tab on the Account Settings page, and change permissions whenever the team changes.
