Built into Dext, AI Assist learns how your practice treats a supplier, a tax code or a client that never quite fits the pattern.
It then automates those decisions across the client base — each one explained, and none of them applied until your expertise says so.
Bookkeeping runs on judgement — which supplier takes which treatment, which tax code applies, which client is the exception.
AI Assist learns how your team resolves each of those, then automates the same decision wherever it fits, on top of Dext's bookkeeping automation. Your expertise sets the standard; intelligent automation is what keeps it consistent across the client base.
Categorisation, tax rules and the fixes that follow them are automated across the practice, exceptions included.
How your team treats a supplier, a document or an awkward edge case becomes guidance that holds for every client it fits.
When routine processing and rework stop filling the day, your team spends it on the client conversations that are worth having.
Review every suggestion, apply automation practice-wide or client by client, and turn it off wherever your judgement says otherwise.
Follow one bookkeeping decision from the moment your team makes it to the moment it runs across the client base.
Every correction, tax rule and category change your team makes is a signal.
Over time AI Assist builds a picture of how your practice handles suppliers, documents and the clients that never quite fit the pattern.
Decisions made become guidance written in your practice's own terms — tax treatment, categorisation patterns and the workflows that only ever apply to one client.
Every suggestion arrives with the thinking behind it, so your team can check it against the standard the practice already holds.
Your team decides how automation is applied.
Review, refine, reject, or auto-apply suggestions across your workflows. You can apply automation practice-wide or manage it at the client level.
Nothing happens without your say-so.
Add your own guidance for a new client, an unusual workflow, or the edge case nobody in the practice has met before.
Tax treatment, categorisation, client exceptions and the data quality checks in between — all automated to the standard your practice already sets.
The treatment your practice has settled on holds from one client to the next, so compliance risk stops depending on who happened to process the document.
Categorisation draws on what the document actually says and how your practice has treated it before — rather than a static rule that breaks at the first exception.
Reviewing transactions, applying categories and processing documents run automatically, so your team looks at the items that genuinely need a professional eye.
Client-specific rules are remembered and applied to that client's future documents, without leaking into the rest of your book.
Incomplete or incorrect document data is corrected or flagged on the way through, so your team is not discovering it at review.
12,000+ accounting and bookkeeping firms already let Dext automate the repetitive half of the work and keep the judgement in the practice.
Dext connects with 36+ accounting software platforms, e-commerce platforms and over 11,500 banks and financial institutions. Whatever you and your accountant already use, Dext fits around it. Nothing to migrate, nothing to relearn.
Most businesses underestimate how much of the week manual processing takes. Put your own figures in and see what Dext would give back.
"Dext is an easy return on investment. For the costs it has to run, the time it saves. Just the time it saves, pays for itself."

Accounting and bookkeeping firms
We're proud to have helped thousands of accounting & bookkeeping firms and businesses better manage their processes, saving millions of hours of manual work.
The biggest value of Dext AI Assist is in reducing the need to review routine transactions, because the system is applying decisions consistently in the background. That not only saves time, but also reduces errors and allows us to focus on the work that really needs attention. It changes how you think about scaling bookkeeping; using technology to handle more of the routine work, so the team can focus on adding value."

Dext AI Assist is an AI agent for accounting built directly into the Dext platform. It learns how your practice categorises, corrects and treats transactions, then turns those decisions into intelligent automation that your team reviews before anything is applied.
It learns from the bookkeeping decisions your team makes in Dext: how you categorise items, how you apply tax treatment, and the corrections you find yourselves repeating. It turns those into suggested guidance, each with the reasoning behind it, and your team can review, refine, reject or auto-apply it across the client base.
AI Assist currently works with items processed in the Costs and Sales spaces in Dext. For UK users, it also works with Dext Solo. Support for further areas, including the Bank space, is planned.
Core guidance – a library of pre-configured, Dext-built guidance within AI Assist – is available free of charge to all Dext users.
Custom guidance within Dext AI Assist is also available on a free trial and as an add-on for R111 per client, per month until the end of October as part of a launch offer.
Yes. Dext AI Assist follows the same security and compliance standards as the Dext platform, including GDPR compliance. Data processed by AI Assist is not used to train external AI models and remains within EU/UK data regions.
Over 700,000 businesses and 12,000 accounting and bookkeeping firms worldwide use Dext to make more time for what matters.
