AI Connector lets you access your Dext practice data through the AI tools you already use, ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot. Ask questions in plain language and get answers powered by your real Dext data.
It uses MCP (Model Context Protocol), a standard that securely connects your AI assistant to your Dext account. You connect once at app.dext.com/mcp, and your AI tool can retrieve practice data whenever you ask.

AI Connector gives your AI tool accurate, current data from Dext. The answer is then written by the AI tool, not by Dext, and we don't review it. More capable models generally give better answers, so if the results feel thin, check which model your tool is set to. Even so, any AI output can be incomplete or wrong, especially on estimates such as tax figures. Use it as a starting point and check anything you act on, as you would with any summary you didn't prepare yourself.
AI Connector is available exclusively to Dext Advanced practices, designed for practice owners and managers who want faster access to practice-level insights.
No. This release is read-only, so it can retrieve information but can’t make approvals or updates in Dext. As responses are generated by your AI tool, not by an accountant, AI Connector is very much built to support your judgement, not replace it.
AI Connector currently covers practice insights, client management, compliance, workflows, data health, and team data. It doesn't yet cover everything in Dext, for example AI Assist usage or supplier rules aren't included. It's not a replacement for Dext itself, more a way to get insights on the go alongside the product.
No. AI Connector is only for accountants and bookkeepers. It's a tool to support you in running your practice - not something your clients can see or use.
No. AI Connector is included with your Dext Advanced subscription at no additional cost. You only need your own subscription to the AI tool you want to use.
AI Connector only surfaces data you already have access to in Dext, it doesn't elevate permissions. The connection is authenticated through your Dext account and access is read-only. Each AI provider has its own data handling policies, so we'd recommend reviewing the relevant provider's terms.
