We find ourselves in a moment of economic transition.
The events of 2020 and beyond have put a huge strain on every part of the global economy, but the burden has fallen particularly hard on SMBs. Despite their size, these are still the primary driver of growth and employment. Although they represent over 90% of the business population, 60-70% of employment and 55% of GDP in developed economies, they are also the most vulnerable to changes in economic conditions.
Over the last 12 months, many SMBs have suddenly experienced several issues at once. While significant blame can be put on the pandemic, these issues are also a sign of the changing needs of these businesses.
In this new world, SMBs will need new support. We believe accountants are ideally placed to be this next level advisor, combining access to data, expertise and processes with the relationships needed to deliver value.
We spoke to 3000 SMBs around the world to understand their needs now and in the near future, their relationship with their accountants and bookkeepers, and what support they require moving forward.
